I have my Chambers B. Yay! It's beautiful. I do have one question though.

Regarding the 'hinge' under the griddle on top of the broiler burner, I cannot tell if it should be a full-enclosed circle or if it's just a pointy thing, riding against the cotter-pin hinge. Would someone with a restored B look at theirs and tell me about how this hinge is supposed to work?

Secondly, the broiler burner is going too far down and connecting with the broiler pan. We need to make an adjustment so the burner remains level and not down at an angle. How do I do this?

    Thanks for all the help.

You need to buy a Service Manual. There's instructions and diagrams for doing all those adjustments in there. Having the manual is a MUST for all Chambers owners.

    Tura-

Thanks. I actually have a manual reprint. But I'm looking at all the sections that cover Broiler/Griddle and I'm not finding which part tells about broiler burner adjustment (so it will not hang downward and touch the broiler tray). Perhaps I'm missing it. Could you point me to the right section?

Also - does your griddle have just a...pointed hook to rest against the hinge there, or a full hook with a rounded part to it to go around the hinge? Mine does not have that.

    Thanks.

Hmmm. I'm having trouble visualizing the "pointed hook" component. If you have a digital camera, could you e-mail me a pic or two?

As to the other question: I am not an expert, so anyone else should jump in and answer this too. So far I have found that the only part that gets messed up on the broiler box is the spring - if that is missing, or broken, or stretched beyound use, then the burner doesn't have a counter-balance to keep it up. You would have to take the side panel off (the one next to the broiler-box), and the burners/drip-pans/grates out that are next to the box, and get a flashlight and see if you can figure out what's not right. If the spring just needs to be tightened, see section "Griddle Lift Spring" on page 7 of the manual. "Nut C" that's referenced is what is visible when you remove the side panel. Removing the panel is easier than it sounds - you just loosen the 2 bolts at the bottom, underside of the panel and then it just pulls off.

I have only had the advantage of messing with my broiler-box while it's out of the stove. I dont' have any good tips for trouble-shooting it while it's still in the stove. Perhaps others can help?

It's the griddle that stops the downward travel of the burner towards the broiler pan. If your griddle hook is worn or broken off, it will not hold the burner connected to the griddle and the griddle will not stop the burner from hitting the pan.

If you look at page 7, Figure 1., you will see the hook on the griddle at the top right. It is just to the left of the words "FRONT PANEL"
